Celebrate National Heritage Week 2025 at Malahide Castle & Gardens with three engaging, free events designed to explore and appreciate our rich cultural heritage. No booking is required – simply come along and enjoy!

1. Malahide Castle Antiques Show and Tell

Date & Time: Sunday, 24th August 2025 | 11am – 3pm
Location: Project Room, Visitor Centre.

Step back in time to May 1976 when the extraordinary contents of Malahide Castle were auctioned off in a historic event that captivated the community and beyond. Nearly everything, from antique beds and exquisite paintings to everyday tablecloths and even the castle’s washing machine, found new homes over the three-day auction.

On Sunday, 24th August 2025, Malahide Castle invites you to relive and celebrate this remarkable chapter in local history at our special Antiques Show and Tell event. Did you or your family acquire a piece of history at this iconic auction? Whether it’s a cherished antique mirror, heirloom chair, fine china, bed linen, or even small keepsakes, we would love to hear your stories and see your treasured mementos.

Bring along your antiques, photographs, or simply your memories. Our expert team will be on hand to document your unique stories and objects, shedding new light on the rich heritage of Malahide Castle. Discover how everyday items can reveal extraordinary insights into the castle’s fascinating past, from grand objects to humble household items.

Event Highlights:

  • Archive footage of the original 1976 auction on display throughout the day.
  • Special ‘Show and Tell’ presentation concluding the event at 3pm.
  • Complimentary tea, coffee, and refreshments available for all participants.

2. Turas threorithe tríd Ghaeilge ann Caisleáin Mhullach Íde

Date & Time: Monday, 18th August 2025 | 1pm
Location: Visitor Centre Ticket Desk.

Beidh turas threorithe trí Ghaeilge ar fáil faoi stair agus saibhreas Caisleain Mhullach Íde ar an 20ú lá dé mhí Mheán Fómhair. Ait chonaithe Muintir Thalbóid ó 1147 go dtí 1976, tá scéal Chaisleáin Mhullach Íde fíor thábhactadh ní amháin faoi stair an cheantair, ach stair na hÉireann chomh maith! Bígi linn le Laura Ni Dhubhir i rith  Seachtain na hOidhreachta seo.

Booking isn’t required. Places on the tour will be offered on a first come first served basis on the day. Arrive early to avoid disappointment. Please register at the ticket desk located in the visitor centre in the castle’s courtyard before arriving to the castle.

3. Architectural Tour of Malahide Castle

Date & Time: Tuesday, 19th August 2025 | 1pm
Location: Visitor Centre Ticket Desk.

Discover the architectural wonders of Malahide Castle on a special behind-the-scenes tour led by architectural historian and castle curator, Cathal Dowd Smith. Explore 800 years of architectural evolution, from elegant eighteenth-century plasterwork to detailed nineteenth-century craftsmanship, and learn about recent conservation efforts.

  • Tours offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Register at the visitor centre ticket desk upon arrival.
