The Heart of the Castle
The Great Hall
Step back into the medieval past and experience Malahide Castle’s Great Hall, one of Ireland’s most impressive Gaelic feasting rooms.
Steeped in history, this space, carefully preserved by the Talbot family for generations, showcases an impressive collection of Jacobite portraits, exquisite Irish furniture, and a captivating Minstrel’s Gallery, all within an architectural masterpiece of the historicist style.
The Oak Room
Located in the oldest section of the castle, and so-called because of its richly ornate timber carvings, the oak room offers visitors a chance to experience one of Ireland’s most evocative early-modern interiors. The panelling draws on continental influences and tells a story of the Talbot’s interests, devotions, and their passion for exoticism.
The Library
The Library, remotely situated, is a haven. The eighteenth-century bookcases once housed the Talbot’s collection of rare books and manuscripts. While still glistening centuries later the gilt-leather wallpaper creates one of Fingal’s most atmospheric rooms.
The Drawing Rooms
These elegant and ornate entertaining rooms were created within the seventeenth-century west wing of the castle. In 1833 the rooms were decorated in a colour now known as ‘Malahide orange’ creating a bold impression which can be experienced anew following our recent restoration work.
