Butterfly Eggs
The first stage of a butterfly’s life is a small, round, oval, or cylindrical egg.
Chrysalis (Pupa)
When the caterpillar is fully grown, it attaches itself to a plant and forms a chrysalis, or pupa. Inside the chrysalis, the caterpillar’s tissues rearrange to form the features of an adult butterfly.
Caterpillar (Larva)
The caterpillar, or larva, emerges from the egg and eats a lot to grow quickly. It sheds its skin as it grows.
Butterfly
The adult butterfly emerges from the chrysalis with soft wings. After resting, it pumps blood into its wings and can fly.
