Furniture & Paintings

Malahide Castle is full of treasures offering valuable insights into the privileged life of the Irish nobility.

Centuries of curation, renovation and refinement has culminated in the collection of furniture, artwork and personal effects on display in the castle today.

From the intricately carved wooden panels of the Oak Room, to the signature Malahide Orange paintwork adorning the drawing room walls, to the recurring motif of the Talbot lion and hound coat of arms, each room contains a thousand stories.

Learn how courting couples got to know each other on the confidante sofa, see the extraordinary hand woven rug transported back to Malahide from China in the 1950s, and don’t miss the unusual souvenir Isabel Talbot brought back from King George V’s coronation in Westminster Abbey.

Enjoy stunning copies of Raphael’s Vatican frescoes and admire more recent works on loan from the National Gallery of Ireland. Meanwhile, come face to face with the castle’s former residents in the Talbot portraits lining the walls.

Get a glimpse into the personal lives of the castle residents with access to the Master and Ladies private bedrooms on the second floor and admire the vintage toys in this typical Victorian or Edwardian nursery.
